What's the Best Type of Suit for the Spring Season?

A high quality mens suit is the perfect form of formalwear. Whether you're attending a business meeting, a wedding, a graduation or a black-tie dinner, you can't go wrong with a suit. Some types of suits, however, are better for the spring season than others. If you're shopping for a new suit to wear this spring season, there are a few things you'll need to consider. By following these simple tips, you'll be able to choose the perfect suit for the upcoming spring season.

Choose a Light Color

It's recommended that you choose a suit in a light color if you're planning to wear it during the spring season. Why is a light color necessary? Light colors are cooler than dark colors. When wearing light-colored clothes, including a suit, you'll stay cool and comfortable even when it's hot outside.

There's nothing wrong with wearing a dark-colored suit. Some men prefer the more traditional and formal appearance of a dark-colored suit. If it's a hot spring day, though, you may discover that it's hot and unfomfortable. Dark colors absorb more heat than light colors. For the utmost level of comfort on a hot spring day, there's no substitution for a light-colored suit.

Skip the Vest

You can typically skip the vest when choosing a suit for the spring season. Also known as a waistcoat, a vest is an integral component of a three-piece suit. Three-piece suits consist of trousers, a suit jacket and a vest. Two-piece suits, conversely, only consist of trousers with a matching suit jacket.

Vests are typically optional. Even though they are a component of three-piece suits, you can usually omit them from your suit outfits. Doing so, in fact, may result in a higher level of comfort during the spring season. A vest is another layer of fabric that, so it will inevitably trap some of your body heat. You can keep cool this spring season by skipping the vest. Instead, choose a two-piece suit with a jacket and matching trousers.

Go for Single Breasted

Assuming you intend to wear it during the spring season, you should choose a suit with a single-breasted jacket. There are dozens of types of suit jackets. Nonetheless, nearly all of them can be categorized as either single breasted or double breasted.

Single-breasted suit jackets have a single column of buttons on the front. Double-breasted suit jackets, as you may have guessed, have two parallel columns of buttons on the front. With two columns of buttons, they have a wider band of overlapping fabric than their single-breasted counterparts.

During the spring season, you'll probably want to wear your suit jacket unbuttoned. Whether it's a single-breasted or double-breasted suit jacket, you can leave the buttons unfastened. With that said, single-breasted suit jackets offer a cleaner and more uniform appearance when unbuttoned than double-breasted suit jackets.

Choose a Lightweight Fabric

One of the most important things to consider when choosing a suit to wear this spring season is the fabric. Suits are available in many different fabrics, some of which are heavier than others. Wool, for example, is a popular choice for the winter season. It's soft and heavy, allowing for exceptionally warm suits. When the spring season rolls around, however, you may want to choose a suit made of a different fabric.

Lightweight fabrics are ideal for the spring season. If your suit is made of a lightweight fabric, you won't have to worry about it making you hot. You'll stay cool and comfortable thanks to its lightweight, breathable construction.

Cotton suits work well for the spring season. As you may know, cotton is an organic fabric derived from the fluffy material around the seeds of a cotton plant. Cotton suits have a similar level of softness as wool but without the added weight. They are lightweight and breathable, making them preferable during the spring season.

Along with cotton, linen suits are an excellent choice for the warmer months of the year. Linen is actually stronger than cotton -- but that's not why it's a smart choice for the spring season. Linen is thinner and more lightweight than cotton. Suits made of linen feature these same qualities. With a linen suit, you'll stay comfortable throughout the spring season while projecting a fashionable and formal appearance in the process.

Don't Forget the Size

You'll need to consider the size when choosing a suit for the spring season. You can't expect to create a formal and cohesive outfit if it doesn't fit. Regardless of the fabric, all suits need to fit. Otherwise, they won't look right when worn.

The problem is that most stores sell suits in fixed measurements. If you're lucky, you may find a suit in a fixed measurement that fits perfectly. Nine out of ten times, though, this won't happen. How do you find a suit that fits perfectly exactly? The answer is to order a custom-sized suit.

Custom-sized suits, such as those offered here at StudioSuits, don't use fixed measurements. They are known as "custom-sized suits" because they are customized according to your body measurements.

Wear the Right Accessories

What type of accessories should you wear with your suit this spring season? At a minimum, you'll need to accessorize your suit with a tie. There are two types of ties with which you can accessorize a suit: neckties and bowties. Neckties offer a more traditional appearance, whereas bowties are typically worn for highly formal events and occasions.

Whether you choose a necktie or a bowtie, you should consider the fabric. Like suits, ties are available in different fabrics. During the spring season, it's best to choose a tie made of a lightweight fabric. A simple solution is to stick with the same fabric from which your suit is made. If you're wearing a cotton suit, choose a cotton tie. If you're wearing a linen suit, choose a linen tie.
