When was the last time that you replaced your razor? If it's been longer than two weeks, it's probably time for a new one. Shaving with the same razor for weeks or even months on end can place you at risk for razor bumps, skin irritation, and infection. The dull blade will grind across your skin, making it difficult to get a smooth, clean shave. If you have trouble remembering when it's time to replace your razor, make a note of it on a calendar.
Wear Sunscreen Lotion
Yes, applying sunscreen lotion can be considered part of a man's grooming routine. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), approximately one in three Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime. That's a pretty shocking number that should serve as an eye opener to anyone who spends time outdoors. Thankfully, though, you can reduce your risk of skin cancer significantly by wearing a high-SPF sunscreen lotion. Sunscreen lotion works by blocking out the sun's ultraviolet light, which is the type of light that's linked to cancerous activity. Stick with a waterproof, high-SPF sunscreen lotion for maximum protection.
Moisturize Daily
Moisturizing is yet another integral part of a man's grooming routine. Going back to high-school biology, our skin is comprised of nearly two thirds water; therefore, it only makes sense that our bodies need this key nutrient. When the skin becomes dry, it may crack, peel and experience other problems. Ideally, you should moisturize after you bathe/shower since this encourages the moisturizing lotion or cream to settle into your pores. A hot shower or bath will open your pores, allowing the lotion to penetrate through with greater ease.
Exfoliate
Even if you clean and moisturize your skin on a regular basis, your pores may still become clogged with oil and dirt. This is where exfoliating comes into play: exfoliation will allow you to wash out any debris that's embedded within your pores.
Keep in mind that exfoliating too often may actually have a negative impact on your skin health, as it strips away essential oils and nutrients, leaving your skin dry and vulnerable to damage. So, how often should you exfoliate? Once per week seems to be a good amount that will keep your skin clean and healthy.
