3 Things You Should do Before Wearing a New Suit

So, you're thinking about investing in a suit? Maybe you are going to buy an off-the-rack suits or perhaps you want to splash out and have a custom suit designed to your exact needs. Both options are fine!

However, there are a few things you should do before  choosing a new suit for the first time, which we're going to reveal in today's blog post.

#1) Cut Stitching Out of Pocket

One of the first things you should do before sporting a new suit is cut the stitching out of the jacket pocket. A typical men's suit jacket is made with stitching inside the pocket, as this allows it to hold shape more easily. If you plan to use this pocket, however, -- and most guys do -- you'll need to cut the stitching out. Using a pair of small scissors or fingernail clippers, carefully cut the stitching so the jacket pocket will open. Pull out any loose threads from the stitching and you are good to go!

#2) Press It

Wouldn't it be great if all of your clothes came neatly folded and wrinkle-free? Well, unfortunately this isn't the case, and it's not uncommon for suits to contain wrinkles after they made. Before wearing a new suit, it's recommended that you either press it, or have it professionally dry cleaned. Eliminating wrinkles from your suit will allow for a cleaner and more formal appearance. Besides, no one likes the appearance of a wrinkled, messy suit. Just remember to check the care label on your jacket and trousers to determine which de-wrinkling methods are suitable and which ones are not.

#3) Check the Size

Of course, you'll also want to check and make sure the suit fits before wearing it out. Just because it looks good in the store doesn't necessarily mean that it will fit you. If the jacket sleeves hang longer than your wrists, it's too big and needs to either be exchanged for a larger size or adjusted by a professional tailor. Try your suit on in the mirror before walking out the door. Are the sleeves an acceptable length? How about the pants? Are the too baggy or do they fit just right? These are just a few of the many questions that you should strive to answer before wearing a new suit. If you're worried about a new suit not fitting, you can always custom order a suit according to your body shape and size here at Studio Suits.
