Winter Skincare Tips for Men

Winter Skincare Tips for Men

The winter season is fast approaching, which means the temperatures will become colder and the air will become dryer. The combination of these elements can wreck havoc on your skin, causing it to dry out and even crack in severe cases. Thankfully, problems such as these are easily avoided by following a proper wintertime skincare regimen, which we're going to reveal in today's blog post.

What's Your Skin Type

Before you can embark on a skincare regimen, you must first identify your skin type. No two people have the same type of skin. Some have naturally oily skin, others have dry skin, and the lucky few fall somewhere in between. If you have an oily skin type, you should refrain from using too many cleaning products, as this will strip away your skin's natural oils, increasing the risk of dehydration.

Drink Plenty of Water

Did you know that the human body is comprised of roughly 2/3 water? H2O plays a key role in nearly every bodily system and function, including skin health. When you don't consume enough water, your skin will become dry while losing some of its elasticity in the process. So, how much water should you drink for optimal skin health? A good rule of thumb is to drink a minimum of eight, 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

Use a Daily Moisturizing Cream or Lotion

Regardless of your skin type, it's recommended that you use a moisturizing cream or lotion once daily. Doing so will provide your skin with essential moisture and nutrients, preventing it from drying out. But it's important to note that not all moisturizers are made the same. When choosing a moisturizing cream or lotion, check the ingredients to see what it contains. A good product should contain aloe vera, vitamin E, shea butter, and other natural ingredients.

Exfoliate

Of course, you should also exfoliate regularly throughout the winter. Facial soaps and cleansers are great for removing topical dirt from your skin, but they don't have the scrubbing power necessary to remove junk that's embedded deep inside your pores. Exfoliating will allow you to deep clean your pores, removing dirt, oil, dead skin cells and other stuff. Just remember to limit your exfoliations to no more than once per week, as exfoliating too frequently may irritate your skin rather than help it.
