How To Fix a Wrinkled Suit Without an Iron

Here's a scenario to consider: you wake up early in the morning to get ready for work only to discover that you forget to dry clean your suit yesterday. And to make matters worse, you don't own an iron. Now you're stuck with a wrinkled, unprofessional-looking suit that your boss will probably hate. Rather than calling out sick or showing up in a dingy suit, you should try one of the following wrinkle-busting methods.

The Shower Method

The next time you find yourself with a wrinkled suit and no iron, try hanging your suit up in the bathroom while you shower. The steam from the shower helps to smooth out wrinkles, leaving your suit looking clean and wrinkle-free. This method works best when you take long, hot showers, as heat translates into steam. A good rule of thumb is to shower (or leave the water running) for at least 20 minutes to remove wrinkles from a suit.

The Hair Dryer Method

Even if you don't own an iron, you may be able to remove wrinkles from a suit using a hair dryer. Going back to the backs of high school physics, heat causes things to expand, including wrinkles. When enough heat is placed against a wrinkled suit, the wrinkled fabric begins to loosen and eventually flatten. Simply turn your hair dryer on the hottest setting and slowly move it back and forth across the the wrinkles. Within 5-10 minutes, the wrinkles should be less visible or eliminated altogether.

The Damp Towel Method

A third technique for removing wrinkles from a suit involves a damp towel. Lay your suit across a bed, table or some other flat surface, and place a hot, damp (just slightly damp, not saturated) towel over the top of it The heat and moisture from the towel will smooth out the wrinkled fabric. Be warned, though, this method takes a bit longer than the two other methods. Depending on just how wrinkled your suit is, it may take half an hour or even longer, and you'll still have to wait for your suit to dry before wearing it. These are just a few fool-proof methods to fix a wrinkled suit without an iron. Of course, the easiest solution is to have your suit professionally dry cleaned. Dry cleaning remove light stains and wrinkles while preserving the integrity of the suit's fabric. What's your preferred method for removing wrinkles from a suit?
